Integrative medicine is an approach to care that puts the patient at the centre and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health.
The principle of Integrative Medicine is grounded within health definitions. The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes health as “ a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.
Integrative Medicine applies across a persons life span by understanding the patients unique set of circumstances. By personalising care, Integrative Medicine addresses all cause of illness as well as addressing the requirements for wellness and healthy long life.
Integrative Medicine is not the same as alternative medicine, instead it uses recognised modalities of healing and treatment such as acupuncture, osteopathy and recognised clinical medicine.
Functional medicine is the future of conventional medicine available now. It seeks to identify and address the root causes of disease, and views the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialities. it treats the whole system, not just the symptoms.
Mery has a great respect for evidence based, effective established medical care. Her Functional and Integrative Therapies are always used as an adjunct to any established medical therapy the patient/client may already being receiving. In this way Mery works alongside and in collaboration with any existing medical therapy you may be receiving.
Mery has a 20 year background in established clinical medicine and operative surgery in addition to her masters’s degree (MSc) in High Performance Psychology and her Degree (BSCc) in Health Care Sciences. She is a certified body movement therapist as well as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, experienced in mind set techniques.
As a result, Mery is uniquely placed to orchestrate the different modalities of established care dependent of the specific requirements of the individual client.
